William Carvalho Price Tag Revealed Amid Leicester City Interest

Leicester will have to fork out at least €20m (£17.5m) in order to sign Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho.

The 27-year-old has made just nine appearances this campaign after he was forced to have an operation following a muscle injury he sustained back in October. Prior to his fitness issues, Carvalho had been an ever present in the Betis lineup, since joining the club last season.

Leicester's interest in the holding midfielder was first revealed several days ago and Diario de Sevilla have now provided further details on the Foxes' pursuit.

The report claims that Betis are open to selling the player - as long as their asking price of €20m is met. This is the amount that the club paid for 75% of his rights in 2018.

Carvalho started his career at Sporting CP, making just shy of 200 appearances for the Lions in all competitions. He is also a regular for Portugal, earning 59 caps to date and helping his country to victory at Euro 2016.

He was one of several long-serving players to depart Sporting - including Gelson Martins and Rui Patricio - after the club's training ground was invaded by fans unhappy with the team's performance.

Carvalho likes to operate just in front of a back four and would slot into Brendan Rodgers 4-1-4-1 formation seamlessly. However, he would face stiff competition from Wilfred Ndidi for a starting spot. The Nigerian has been one of Leicester's standout performers this season and would not be displaced from the XI easily.

The Foxes are understood to not be the only side interested in Carvalho's services with Monaco also circling. Roberto Moreno's team are currently ninth in Ligue 1 and would be unable to offer the Champions League football that he could likely enjoy at the King Power Stadium - depending on how the season is completed when the coronavirus crisis has been averted.
