West Ham United winger Shaun Newton, has joined Leicester City on loan until the end of the season.

The 31 year old, joins the Foxes today, subject to Football league approval, but the deal doesn't look set to be done in time for Newton to play in this afternoons clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Newton is the fifth player to join the Foxes since the New Year, and Leicester manager Rob Kelly was very pleased to complete the signing.

He said: "We are really pleased to have got him. There were a number of other Championship sides who were in the chase for Shaun, but i think he has seen that we are a club moving forward".

There has been many rumours of other players coming to join the club in recent weeks after the takeover of Milan Mandaric, which was officially completed yesterday.

Newton was involved in the West Ham side, which gained promotion through defeating Preston North End in a play off final at Cardiffs Millennium Stadium, and has also had spells with Wolves and Charlton Athletic in his career.

"I believe he has been promoted from this level four times during his career - so he certainly knows what its all about".

"I am sure that he will prove to be a good acquisition".
