Leicester Eye Surprise Move for Wanted Ajax Defender Nicolás Tagliafico

Leicester City are keeping tabs on Ajax left-back Nicolás Tagliafico, as they begin to identify possible replacements for England international Ben Chilwell.

Tagliafico has been in superb form for the Dutch giants ever since he joined in January 2018, and has forged himself a reputation for being one of the finest defenders in Europe.

Now, though, according to Le10 Sport, Leicester's hierarchy are keeping an eye on Tagliafico's situation, as they ponder whether or not to sanction the sale of Chilwell. The Argentine's contract in Amsterdam runs until the summer of 2022, and he's thought to be valued at just €22m (£19m) - which is easily within the Foxes' transfer budget.

However, he's yet to be tested in one of Europe's 'big five' leagues, and has repeatedly been linked with a move away from Amsterdam. The former Independiente defender is wanted by both PSG and Chelsea, though the latter have now turned their attentions to Chilwell. Manchester City have also been linked.

Were Tagliafico to join - and Chilwell to leave - Leicester, it's likely that he'd become an immediate starter at the former Premier League champions. The 25-cap international would have Austrian veteran Christian Fuchs for competition, but he's played second fiddle to Chilwell for the best part of two years now - and knows his best days are behind him.

Ben Chilwell and Christian Fuchs remain Leicester City's two registered left-backs

Tagliafico, who cost Ajax just £4m when he moved to the Netherlands, has won the Eredivisie and Dutch equivalent of the FA Cup, scoring a creditable 12 goals and contributing 15 assists in that time. But its his defensive work - unusually for a full-back these days - which has seen his stock rise, impressing time and time again with his reading of the game.

By way of comparison, Chilwell has played 118 times in his Leicester career, contributing three goals and 12 assists.
