Leicester City Ahead of Man Utd in Race for David Brooks

Leicester City have emerged as favourites to sign Bournemouth's David Brooks ahead of Manchester United this summer, with the Red Devils still seeing Jadon Sancho as their priority target.

Brooks had been linked with a move to United earlier in the transfer window as a backup option in their pursuit for Sancho, but the Red Devils now face competition from the Foxes, as the Bournemouth fire sale has gotten underway.

MEN Sport report that Leiceste are expected to make a formal offer to Brooks in the coming days, and with United still fixated on the Dortmund winger, they could miss out on the versatile Welshman.

Leicester head coach Brendan Rodgers is a 'huge admirer' of Brooks and sees him as the ideal candidate to bolster their attacking ranks, after missing out on the Champions League last season. United have considered the 23-year-old as an option, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set on bringing Sancho to Old Trafford.

With Bournemouth recently selling talisman Callum Wilson for £20m to Newcastle and losing Ryan Fraser on a free, the Cherries are keen to keep at least some of their attacking talent for a promotion campaign, and are demanding upwards of £35m for Brooks.

Cherries head coach Jason Tindall conceded to the Bournemouth Daily Echo that players will be sold so long as an appropriate offer is made, admitting: "We as a football club have got a value of what we believe for our players and if that value is met then players have got the opportunity to then discuss with whoever they need to discuss with and then make the decision they feel is right for them."

Brooks managed just nine appearances last season, missing most of the campaign with an ankle injury.
