Leicester and Newcastle Eye £20m Deal for Norwich's Jamal Lewis

Norwich left-back Jamal Lewis is attracting transfer interest from Leicester City and Newcastle United, according to reports.

The 22-year-old was one of the Canaries' better performers last season as Daniel Farke's side finished bottom of the Premier League table, losing their last 10 games in a row.

Despite Norwich's recent plight, Lewis has still garnered attention from several top-flight clubs. Champions Liverpool had a £10m bid rejected for the Northern Ireland international earlier in the window, before they switched targets to sign Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos instead.

According to Sky Sports, Leicester and Newcastle have now entered the race for his signature. The Foxes recently lost starting left-back Ben Chilwell to Chelsea and Lewis could be brought in as a ready made replacement.

If the Canaries man does sign, he will likely become the second defender through the door at the King Power Stadium this window, with the arrival of Atalanta's Timothy Castagne on a five-year deal set to be announced imminently.

Leicester already have a decent amount of depth at full-back, with Ricardo Pereira, James Justin, Christian Fuchs and Luke Thomas all seeing action last season. However, their fixture load will increase during the forthcoming campaign thanks to their involvement in the Europa League. Lewis' arrival could help ease the pressure of the current squad.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are also said to be interested. The Magpies were subject to a protracted, Saudi-backed takeover bid over the summer, with the consortium eventually pulling out. They cited the Premier League's lack of cooperation as the reason for the collapse, although CEO Richard Masters denied this.

Newcastle have already recruited Jeff Hendrick and Mark Gillespie on free transfers this summer but they will need to open their cheque book for Lewis. Norwich are believed to value the pacey defender at around £20m.
