McKinlay scored his first goal for Leicester before James Scowcroft scored what proved to be the winner over Coventry and Adams was delighted for the Scottish midfielder.

"Billy's quality and he's showed that today," said Adams after the game.

"He's showed that he can still handle the First Division. He's very experienced and he's a calming influence on the pitch. Off the pitch he's a tremendous character.

"He understands the game and he's not one of those I have to shout at either because he knows what we require.

"I can't believe he couldn't get a club last summer."
