Leicester City 4-2 Ipswich Town

The Foxes’ performance was typical of their over all campaign. Their flowing attacking football was evident for large spells, but conceding too many goals throughout the season has ultimately cost the Foxes a play-off place.

Six of Eriksson’s loanees featured for the Foxes today in what proved to be another fine home performance full of goals and a brand of football that Eriksson will look to replicate next season.

Ipswich’s half-hearted performance had all the hallmarks of a team eager for a holiday as Leicester played out a fairly routine win.

Paul Jewell’s men had their moments though and it was Ipswich who had the first chance of the contest. A mistake from Yuki Abe allowed Norris a path to goal, but the striker shot wide of Chris Weale’s post.

The Foxes soon began to produce some fine passing football that culminated in the opening goal for Andy King.

Paul Gallagher and Yakubu combined to tee up King at the back post with the midfield talisman heading home to add another to his collection.

The Foxes faithful didn’t have to wait long for another City raid. This time Andy King turned provider, albeit via the post.

The Welsh international found space to fire low and hard past Fulop, the ball flew back off the post to leave Yakubu with a tap in from three yards.

Ipswich responded immediately but with Connor Wickham in acres of space in the box, Jason Scotland opted for a weak strike at goal when a lay-off seemed the obvious option.

The Foxes made the visitors pay just before the break when Yuki Abe scored his first goal for the club.

A fine counter attack lead by Paul Gallagher was finished with perfection by the Japanese International as his shot from 18 yards found the inside of Fulop’s post to send the home side in at the break with a three goal advantage.

After the break the Tractor Boys looked to claw their way back into the contest. And, five second half minutes nearly turned the contest on its head.

First a Kyle Naughton hand ball handed the visitors a lifeline from the penalty spot. Leadbitter duly obliged, sending Weale the wrong way with his shot.

Leicester’s back four then switched off to give Connor Wickham the time and space to send a long range effort past Weale to put Ipswich right back in the contest at 3-2.

Paul Jewell’s men were threatening to pull off a memorable comeback until Diomansy Kamara put the Foxes out of sight.

Yet another free flowing counter attack culminated in a goal for the Foxes. This time Yakubu’s shot from a Kyle Naughton cross, rebounded out to Kamara who poked home to round off a rollercoaster season for the Foxes.

Eriksson will be looking to build on what has been an almost perfect start to his reign at Leicester. The City boss has already hinted that he is eager to secure the services of some, if not all of his loan players in a bid to reach the Premier League.

Exciting times await the Foxes faithful as the summer transfer window opens ahead of another season chasing promotion from the Championship.
