Leicester City 3-1 Scunthorpe United

The Foxes gave new boss Sven Goran Eriksson signs of real promise as the manager-elect watched from the Walkers Stadium East Stand.

Chris Powell took charge of Leicester for yesterday's clash and, despite the constant changes to backroom staff at Leicester, the team had a settled look about it with Miguel Vitor the only Sousa signing to start.

The Foxes flew into action and, within seconds of kicking off, Martyn Waghorn nearly gave the home side an early lead - his shot just missing the far post and heading wide.

Lloyd Dyer and Martyn Waghorn looked sharp alongside Steve Howard in attack and Leicester continued to dominate with a series of chances before the breakthrough finally came.

Martyn Waghorn picked up the ball from Richie Wellens and was able to hold off the attention of two defenders before firing the ball into the top corner of the net to round off a spectacular opening 20 minutes for the Foxes.

Leicester nearly doubled their lead just minutes later, but Steve Howard fired his header wide from a pin point Waghorn corner.

City weren't finished there though and continued to press high up the field but a shaken Scunthorpe team were able to hold on, even with a slice of luck, until half time.

The second half started in much the same way as the first and Leicester continued to play some nice football in midfield - with Wellens and King forming an impressive partnership.

Scunthorpe were poor and when Lloyd Dyer rolled the ball home after some shambolic defending the match looked to be tied up, much to the delight of the Foxes faithful.

Eriksson will have his work cut out to treat Leicester's defensive deficiencies though - and this was clear to see when they allowed Scunthorpe an undeserved response on the hour mark when Michael O'Connor squeezed the ball home.

Suddenly the tension around the ground grew and Scunthorpe sensed they were still in with a chance of coming away from the Walkers with a point.

The Foxes looked flat but caretaker boss Chris Powell was quick to act - bringing on Yuki Abe and Frank Moussa to liven up the midfield.

But, it was Scunthorpe who continued to search for the equaliser, much to the frustration of the Foxes who finally found a new lease of life through substitute Frank Moussa.

The visitors were chasing the match as the game entered stoppage time. But, some calm defending from Michael Morrison set the Foxes on the counter attack - the ball fell to the feet of Howard who was able to find Moussa on the edge of the box, the midfielder smashed the ball first time low and hard past the 'keeper to give the Foxes all three points.
