Steve Cotterill outfoxed his former employers to hold Leicester City to a frustrating goalless draw.

The Burnley manager spent the final three months of last season as a coach at the Walkers Stadium and used his insider knowledge to mastermind another clean sheet - the Clarets have now conceded just one goal on their travels.

It could have been worse for Leicester because Dion Dublin's chest down to Kevin Pressman appeared to have crossed the line before the keeper managed to smother the ball.

Leicester's misery was compounded in the 73rd minute when Jordan Stewart was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Ian Moore.

David Connolly was withdrawn with 20 minutes remaining and he remains goalless since his £500,000 summer move from West Ham.

Leicester rarely got a glimpse of goal and when they did they were frustrated by their former keeper Danny Coyne, who kept out the home side's best chance with a fingertip save from James Scowcroft's low drive from 12 yards.

Otherwise City showed little imagination in front of goal with their other notable efforts long distance drives from Gareth Williams and Stewart.

Connolly should have done better on 37 minutes when he dithered too long and shot into the side netting from close range after he had gathered a far post cross from Williams.

The Clarets for their part added little in the way of attacking threat, their best attempts on goal long-range strikes from Jean-Louis Valois and Michael Duff.
