Kay (17)

Stallard (75)

Benjamin (28)

Barnsley went ahead in the 17th minute, courtesy of a 25 yard strike from Kay. A younger Pressman may have done something with the strike, but it was not to be. Trevor Benjamin equalised 10 minutes later with a header but, with just over 15 minutes left, former Notts County man Mark Stallard scored the winner.

This was certainly a more competitive game than City experienced in Estonia and Finland, and Barnsley were enthusiastic, clearly keen to show off new signings such as McPhail from Leeds United. City were not at full strength, but could certainly not be described as makeshift. Only really in the last 20 minutes did Barnsley get the upper hand.
Barnsley could have taken the lead early on, but only good saves from Pressman prevented it. Eventually Makin and Gillespie began working well together down the right hand side, and Wilcox and Tiatto combined to good effect, swapping positions down the left. Eventually Tiatto was moved into the middle where his game became much quieter.

This game would have been more useful as an exercise, had Barnsley been able to contain City without committing several meaningless fouls. City weren't entirely guilt free on that score, and were lucky to keep 11 men on the pitch, with Gillespie committing a really unnecessary foul during the 2nd half.
