Leicester City set a new club record of 20 games without defeat as they stretched their lead in League One to 13 points, but it was a victory not without its problems.

They had to survive a penalty and a red card in a desperate second half after being in cruise control in the opening period.

This was their 21st league win, but they were left to regret not scoring more in the first half when Bristol Rovers had as much movement as a rabbit caught in headlights.

The home side was incapable of judging a pass or winning anything in the air and, when Leicester went in front on 20 minutes, it was with their help.

Craig Hinton caught Matt Fryatt with a needless foul ten yards into Rovers half.

Twitchy defenders were all over the place as the free-kick was slung long to the far post, where Steve Howard headed on and Fryatt volleyed home for his 26th goal of the season.

Strangely it did more for Rovers than for Leicester. They began to pull together, while the Foxes failed to find a killing shot.

Rovers' dressing room could not have been a comfortable spot at half-time, but they came out re-organised and in better spirit, with Rickie Lambert joining the attack.

He is being held back on the subs' bench while he carries hip and thigh injuries but, within ten minutes, had a great chance to add to his 21 goals with a spot-kick.

The penalty was given away by Jack Hobbs, who felled Darryl Duffy from behind, a challenge which held up the action for two minutes and brought the on-loan Liverpool central defender a red card.

Lambert struck his penalty well but Mark Bunn, the latest player in Leicester's goal this season having joined them on-loan from Northampton, dived to his right to complete a fine save.
