Newcastle considering late approach for Youri Tielemans

Youri Tielemans has emerged as a late transfer window target for Newcastle United, 90min understands.

Newcastle have used up most of their transfer budget for the summer having recently completed a club-record deal for Alexander Isak.

However, they are still looking to bring in a midfielder and winger, and while they are looking at potential loans, sources have confirmed to 90min that if a deal perceived as 'too good to turn down' arose, they would look reconsider their thinking.

Tielemans is an option and 90min are told that he is indeed a player that appeals to manager Eddie Howe.

Howe is looking for more midfield presence and was previously interested in Ajax's Edson Alvarez, new West Ham man Lucas Paqueta and Tielemans' Leicester colleague James Maddison. The Belgium international is the latest name to be considered on Tyneside.

The 25-year-old has made it clear to Leicester that he wants to leave the club this summer having already turned down numerous offers of a new contract.

Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he would like Tielemans to stay, but also admitted recently he can't be guaranteed his place in the first-team.

"It’s game to game. I judge on what people are doing now," Rodgers said.

"Youri, it’s been a tough period for him. Hopefully over these next few weeks, his situation will be made clearer and we’ll understand it better."
