Martin Keown free to leave

Too good for Leicester???
Martin Keown, whom City signed a couple of days shy of his 38th birthday has been made available on a free transfer.

This move has surprised City fans, who had already warmed to the experienced centre half. Chants of "Keown is beautiful" rang round at Rotherham for example.

While the club have tried to make this appear a run of the mill decision, there's something about it that doesn't ring true ...

Why has the defender who was brought in for "leadership qualities" been allowed to move on? Rumours abound about disagreements with Micky Adams, and that Martin Keown was unhappy with the way that the club was organised. He is now unlikely to be included in the squad for Saturday's game with Preston.

Speaking earlier today, a Leicester City spokesman said "With the return of Matt Elliott and the emergence of Richard Stearman, the club are not in a position to guarantee Martin regular first-team football. Therefore it is felt in the best interests of both parties that Martin is free to leave the club."

Micky Adams had also alluded to the fact that Keown was struggling to fit in with life in the Championship, saying that "Martin's learning that he's not at Arsenal any more and that he's not surrounded by the best players in the world."

Maybe Keown's had too much of the good life, and has been spoilt? However, he's not going to find many clubs in the Championship that have facilities on a par with Leicester's ... Good luck Martin - shame you couldn't cope with a smaller club!
