The former Southampton and Derby midfielder missed the midweek defeat at Brighton with a knee injury.

On-loan defender Kerrea Gilbert remains doubtful. The Arsenal youngster has been ruled out of the last two matches with a hamstring strain.

There is a chance he could be fit to face the Pirates, but next weekend's FA Cup first round tie against Stevenage is a more likely date for his return.

The same goes for veteran striker Paul Dickov in his recovery from a back injury, while the suspected groin injury that has kept DJ Campbell on the sidelines for the last five weeks has now been diagnosed as a pelvic problem.

Defender Steve Elliott could return for Rovers at the Walkers Stadium.

Elliott has been sidelined for a month with a troublesome calf injury but has resumed training and is rated 50/50 for the weekend.

Fellow defenders Joe Jacobson and Ryan Green were included in the squad against Southend last weekend following their recovery from respective knee and hamstring injuries, with Jacobson making it on to the pitch as a substitute for the third successive game.

Both players featured for the reserves on Wednesday as they continued to build up their match fitness.

However, Danny Coles remains out. The defender is not expected to return until the end of November at the earliest after undergoing surgery to repair knee cartilage.
