Leicester closing in on Reims defender Wout Faes

Leicester are close to striking a deal to sign Reims centre-back Wout Faes, 90min can confirm.

The Foxes are preparing for the departure of Frenchman Wesley Fofana, who has passed his medical ahead of a £75m move to Chelsea which could be finalised later on Wednesday.

With both the money and the squad space needed to start making significant summer signings, Leicester want a direct replacement for Fofana and 90min has learned that a deal is close for 24-year-old Faes.

A product of the Anderlecht academy, Faes was highly rated in his youth and has been living up to that potential following his move to Reims in 2020.

Faes has 73 Ligue 1 appearances to his name and his development was rewarded with a maiden call-up to the Belgian national team earlier this summer.

Now, a move to Leicester is on the cards, with Brendan Rodgers finally set to make his second signing of the summer, following the arrival of backup goalkeeper Alex Smithies on a free transfer.

Serie A side Torino were also linked with Faes earlier this summer following the departure of Bremer to Juventus, but it is Leicester who are expected to win the race for the Belgian's signature.
