"I thought they (Wigan) were better than us today.
"That was as strong a side as I've seen here at the Walkers Stadium.
"I think we contributed a bit ourselves, we didn't play particularly well, but more credit goes to Wigan than anything else.
"We need to defend set pieces properly. We didn't do that today but that's not the whole story.
"The delivery from the free kick for their first goal caused us problems, though actually one of our players won it and headed against one of the Wigan players.
"As for their second, we've lost too many goals from corners. It's something we have to work really hard on in pre-season to get the system right.
"It's important to mention that I thought Paul Jewell's team looked good today. They looked strong, like they might be automatic promotion candidates.
"They're a cohesive unit. They've been building their team for three years now. They looked solid and they worked extremely hard.
"From our point of view that's something we have to strive towards.
"We're hanging about the relegation zone. We've had so many opportunites recently to pick up points and take the pressure off.
"And as a result we've left ourselves in a precarious position.
"I think another win would be enough. That makes Tuesday night's match against Cardiff vitally important."
Wigan Manager Paul Jewell:
"We looked dangerous on the break but 1-0 is always a dodgy scoreline and we were delighted to see the second one go in.
"We coped with them exceptionally well, they didn't get around the back of us and we were good I felt. We made the right decisions in the right areas and looked a good unit. The two central defenders were outstanding. They did all the right things and we battled for everything. I was pleased and somewhat relieved when the second goal went in
"It's now up to us to keep going because there's still a lot of football to be played and a great deal can still happen along the way. We can do no more than win our games and if we do that we'll be okay."
