Jamie Vardy fires goal of the season contender against Liverpool

Here we take a look at his and some other contenders for goal of the season.

JAMIE VARDY (LEICESTER v Liverpool, February 2 2016)

England forward Vardy looked to be chasing a lost cause when, on the hour, Riyad Mahrez lumped a hopeful pass forwards into the Liverpool half

However, as the ball dropped over his shoulder, Vardy sent an instinctive, angled half-volley soaring over the backpedalling goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and into the roof of the net

The Leicester striker added a second to seal the victory, but this time from close range

DELE ALLI (Crystal Palace v TOTTENHAM, January 26 2016)

Teenage midfielder Alli netted a brilliant effort as Spurs came from behind to win 3-1 at Palace

The 19-year-old England Euro 2016 hopeful collected a knockdown at the edge of the Palace box, taking the ball on his knee before flicking it back over his head and spinning around to dispatch a stunning volley into the bottom left corner.

MATT RITCHIE (BOURNEMOUTH v Sunderland, September 19 2015)

A wonderful strike from Ritchie helped Bournemouth on their way to a first Premier League home win, going on to beat a struggling Sunderland side 2-0

The Cherries were 1-0 up with an early goal from Callum Wilson when a corner was headed clear to the edge of the Sunderland penalty area, from where Ritchie chested the ball down and then fired it back into the top left corner.

CHRISTIAN BENTEKE (Manchester United v LIVERPOOL, September 12 2015)

Liverpool were trailing Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford heading into the final five minutes when Jordon Ibe got away down the right and cut the ball back into a crowded penalty area

Daley Blind's backward header sent the ball up into the air, and as it dropped, Benteke swivelled to execute a textbook overhead kick into the top-right corner

United rallied to net a swift third through Anthony Martial, as defeat edged Reds boss Brendan Rodgers closer to the exit door at Anfield

PHILIPPE COUTINHO (Stoke v LIVERPOOL, August 9 2015)

Liverpool had opened the campaign full of hope, and with a hard-earned 1-0 win at Stoke thanks to a sublime late long-range effort from Coutinho

With 86 minutes on the clock, the Brazil attacking midfielder collected the ball midway in the home side half, shrugging off his marker before charging towards the Stoke penalty area and clipping a fine strike up and over Jack Butland from 25 yards
