Is it time to let bygones be bygones ?

Another disappointing performance and just a point was all we had to show from the midweek match with lowly Brighton. With 11 games of the season gone City find themselves just a couple of points above the relegation zone. The fans are getting restless and even Levein has said he is losing his patience.

Are we however living in the past ?, we remember fondly the great Martin O'Neill years, a time when City could hold there own against the best in the Premiership. We were clearly boxing above our weight during these years but has this now become a benchmark to which we measure our current team ?

Many of the younger fans will have grown up on this success, not realising just what kind of yo-yo team preceded the O'Neill era. Many of the older fans will have seen a lot worse on the pitch than we are seeing now. Maybe we should not compare the current team to that of O'Neill and we will see it in a different light.

Levein was brought in to rebuild the club, his primary aim when taking up the hotseat was to lower the age of the squad and trim the wage bill. Not an easy job considering the clubs financial plight but a job that he has achieved in under 12 months. For the first time in awhile we have young players chomping at the bit, a manager prepared to let these youngsters have some first team experience, something that Adams was loathe to do.

It wont be easy for Levein and the fans, at times it wont be pretty but so far Levein has pretty much kept his end of the bargain, now its up to us to keep our end and give Levein the time he needs to mould the current squad around his tactics. He never said it would be easy and he certainly never said it would be quick.

I think we have to remember fondly the O'Neill years but let bygones be bygones and stop constantly using them as a benchmark. Lets give our manager time to work his magic, to rebuild our youthful team. Its a steady ship we need before we steer our way to the Premiership waters, Levein is currently plugging the holes left by Taylor and Adams. And once we are on that even keel we will see the results improving, the team performances improving and most inportantly the confidence returning not just on the pitch but in the stands too.

I for one am still happy with Levein at the helm, many may not be, but I beleive that given the time and patience from the fans all will be well and in several years time we will look back and wonder what all the fuss was about!
