Former Germany international Dietmar Hamann has emerged as a contender for the vacant managerial role at Swindon Town, BBC Wiltshire understands.Hamann, who is currently working as first-team coach at Leicester, is one of eight men in contention for the job.
Caretaker boss Paul Bodin is also in the frame with big-name candidates Paolo Di Canio and George Burley.
Ex-Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope and Scottish pair John Hughes and Gus MacPherson have also been linked.
Swindon sacked Paul Hart
in April after their relegation to League Two and his replacement is set to be announced this week.
The 37-year-old Hamann, who played for Liverpool, Newcastle, Bolton and Manchester City, has no managerial experience but has been learning his trade under Sven-Goran Eriksson at the Walkers Stadium.
Former West Ham striker Di Canio is another of the potential managers with no experience and has been working as a pundit in his native Italy since retiring three years ago.
However, the 42-year-old, who was linked with the vacancy at Newport County in April before withdrawing his application, has completed his Uefa coaching badges and is understood to have met with Swindon chairman Jeremy Wray.
