The Walkers Stadium is not about to be demolished by a horde of bulldozers to make way for an interstellar highway. Craig Levein is not about to be whisked off to another planet, although some fans may wish he was. And despite his erratic behaviour on Saturday Alan Maybury is not an alien.
It seems that some of the supporters are getting unsettled, some are going as far as calling for the managers head. Others are hinting that well we'll wait a few more games and see. Many believe we havn't made much progress if any at all since the Adams era.
So the team is still struggling on the pitch, Levein can't seem to decide on a starting eleven and we still have players being played out of position. These are all criticism's fairly aimed at Craig Levein and the coaching staff. But there have been improvements, can you remember the last time we had 4 or 5 young players chomping at the bit and actually looking like promising players....no....well it was a long time ago. Levein and his staff have given promise to these younger players and over the next few seasons we will reap the rewards, be it on the field or financially.
Although the results have not been going our way there has been without doubt some fantastic passages of play albeit in small chunks. There has been more promise in these passages than there ever was with Adams and the hoof culture. Some will point and say its Levein's team now and look we have waited 10 games and hey we are not in a play off position. Spurs tried this method, constantly replacing managers season after season, the end result, they flirted with relegation rather than Europe, something unheard of for the Spurs fans.
Levein is our manager, its a time to back him and the team. He's young, energetic and still learning the English game. Sure he has made mistakes, every fan of every club can name a mistake or two their manager has made, the big question is has he learnt from the mistakes. I beleive Levein is learning, its a hard learning curve at that. The last thing we the fans need to do is heap more pressure on. What Levein needs to do is try to relax a bit and settle on his starting eleven in the knowledge that he has time on his side. The more the fans call for his head the more he will PANIC and chop and change the team and tactics.
Its a shame that in today's fast moving world of football manager's are given less time or understanding than ever before. We can't change that but as fans we can get behind the team instead of moaning and acting on impulse every time we lose a game or put in a poor performance.
So when you watch City play on Tuesday remember those famous words printed on so clearly on the cover 'DON'T PANIC' and sit back and take in just what Levein has done for the club so far, its just the start. We would like to remind fans however that you should remember your towel!!!
