Elliot was dismissed for an alleged use of the elbow on Birmingham midfielder David Dunn seven minutes before half time and Steve Bruces side took full advantage by taking a 1-0 lead two minutes later.

The Leicester boss ran towards Leeds official Mike Riley at the half-time whistle to make his feelings on the sending-off known and was forced to sit out the remainder of the game sitting in the stands having been sent-off by the Yorkshire official.

To make matters worse for the Foxes, goalkeeper Ian Walker was dismissed 16 minutes after the break for handling outside the box, a decision that Adams didn't argue with.

"I was disappointed with the sending off. I don't think there was any intent on Matt's behalf to do David Dunn any harm.

"He's miscued a clearance he should have dealt with better but his eyes were always firmly focused on the ball.

"It was a key moment in the game."

And of his own sending off Adams said: "I haven't a clue why I was sent to the stands. Yes, I went onto the pitch to keep my players away from the referee, but I know for certain I did not use any foul or abusive language.

"I am disappointed to have lost our unbeaten run because that could be a big result for us at the end of the season. I feel they have not beaten us today, we've beaten ourselves."
