Beaumont's View: Ticket Prices

It’s about time they tried to capitalise on the price hikes the top-flight clubs are putting on their tickets if you ask me!

As a Leicester fan, I know all too well that our prices are a lot higher than most FL clubs, and I’m not surprised that one of the reasons our fans are staying away is the prices.

Take our recent League Cup match against Blackpool. A few years ago that match would’ve been included in Season Tickets for being the first home cup tie, but the club stopped doing that kind of thing a while back. Now Leicester wanted to make it cheap because they were expecting a low crowd anyways, but Blackpool said they wanted the game to be the same price as one of our graded matches(which start around £20 for an adult ticket). Because of this the FL had to get involved and set the price. £12 adults and £5 kids. The attendance that night was just over 7000…..in a 32,000 seater stadium….

Surely it would’ve made MORE sense for Blackpool to agree to £10 adults and a kids for a quid? I know a lot of people who would’ve gone if that were the case, but stayed away because they couldn’t justify paying out upwards of £30 for them to take their families.

As much as I want to see us back in the Premiership, the one thing I would not be looking forward to if it happened would be paying out the extortionate ticket prices, yet I would still pay it. The problem is that the top flight clubs realise that the core of the away support for visiting teams have this attitude as well, and until something is done to put the sport back into easier access for fans then the prices will keep going up. And so will the prices lower down the League.
