Sporting CP Eye Double Move for Leicester City Flops Adrien Silva & Islam Slimani

Primeira Liga giants Sporting CP are keen on re-signing two of their former star players Adrien Silva and Algerian striker Islam Slimani from Leicester City.

While both players are currently contracted to Premier League side Leicester City, Brendan Rodgers has shipped both of them out for loan spells at Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

According to O Jogo, Sporting CP are keen to 'recover' a number of players who have left the club over the past few years - for various reasons - in order to actively challenge for domestic honours again.

Midfielder Silva joined Leicester in 2017 for a substantial fee of €25m, but struggled to ever really make an impression under Brendan Rodgers' predecessor Claude Puel. With players such as James Maddison and Youri Tielemans emerging as highly talented options in central midfield, it is highly unlikely Silva would challenge upon return from his loan.

With his contract set to expire in 2021, it is likely that the Foxes will seek to move on the 31-year-old midfielder this summer, in order to recoup some sort of payment from his former employers.

Unlike the Silva situation, the deal to take Islam Slimani back to Portugal may be much more complicated. Due to his impressive form at Monaco - with a goal return of nine in 19 Ligue 1 appearances - there may perhaps be other high profile clubs sniffing around for the prolific striker.

To complicate matters more, Monaco retain an option to buy the Algerian if they deem his form worthy of a permanent move.

Like Silva, Slimani struggled to really make his mark at the King Power Stadium, with the presence of Jamie Vardy perhaps a key factor. As a player signed after the incredible 2015/16 Premier League title triumph, the burden of trying to carry on such success was simply too great.

It remains to be seen as to whether these deals will be completed and if there is an appetite among all parties for moves to take place. With both players perhaps moving past their peak, it would be surprising to see Leicester - or another English side - bring these players back to these shores.

Most Leicester fans have probably forgotten they ever played for them...
