Leicester's Interest in Ibrahima Diallo Confirmed by Stade Brestois Sporting Director

The sporting director of Stade Brestois has confirmed Leicester City are interested in the club's midfielder Ibrahima Diallo, but the Foxes may have to wait until the summer to land the 20-year-old.

Diallo has impressed in Ligue 1 this season, and was rumoured to have caught the eye of Leicester as they look to strengthen their defensive midfield options in January.

However, the Foxes are not the only side interested in the young midfielder, with Seville one of a number of clubs looking to sign Diallo according to the Stade Brestois sporting director Grégory Lorenzi.

When asked by French news outlet Foot Mercato whether Leicester or Sevilla had approached the club about Diallo, Lorenzi replied: "They are not the only ones."

Although Brendan Rodgers' side already boast Wilfried Ndidi, Nampalys Mendy, Hamza Choudhury and Daniel Amartey in their defensive midfield ranks, the club are believed to be looking for another player in that department.

Amartey has not played in the league this season, while Mendy has only featured four times. Ndidi has been pivotal for the Foxes during the campaign, but missed three games in January as he underwent knee surgery.

During Ndidi's absence, Leicester drew one and lost two, before returning to winning ways against West Ham with the Nigerian international back in the side.

The signing of Diallo would help ease Leicester's reliance on Ndidi, but the Leicester Mercury reports that Stade Brestois would rather play out the remainder of the season with their current squad before listening to bids in the summer.

This would likely tie in with Diallo's wishes, with L'Equipe reporting that the youngster would prefer to see out the first year of his four year deal at Stade Brestois, having only signed for the French outfit in the summer.

Diallo joined the Ligue 1 side from Monaco for £1.8m, after enjoying a successful season-long loan during the 2018/19 campaign.

The defensive midfielder progressed through the ranks at Monaco, and has been capped by France at Under 20 level.
