Leicester Transfers: 5 Strikers the Foxes Could Realistically Target This Summer

Leicester fans must be champing at the bit for the Premier League to return. Prior to English football's enforced break, the Foxes were sitting pretty in third and looked set to qualify for the Champions League for just the second time in their 136 year history.

A huge reason for Brendan Rodgers' side's surprise success this season has been the clinical performances of club legend Jamie Vardy. Despite now being 33, Vardy's relentless addiction to goals shows no signs of subsiding with the striker finding the back of the net on no less than 19 occasions.

Kelechi Iheanacho has stepped up his game under Rodgers also and is finally showing himself to be a reliable option from the bench.

Vardy can't go on forever and there remain doubts over whether the Nigerian is worthy of stepping into his illustrious boots - or wrist brace - in a few years time.

Maybe it's time to test the market then? Here are some potential striking options that Leicester may pursue this summer - or whenever the bloody transfer window opens.

Odsonne Edouard

FC Kobenhavn v Celtic FC - UEFA Europa League Round of 32: First Leg

Leicester have been linked with Celtic's star striker ever since Brendan Rodgers made the switch from Parkhead and as a source told 90min back in January, the Frenchman is keen on a move to England.

SPFL imports have been hit and miss throughout Premier League history. For every Virgil van Dijk there's a David Goodwillie, but the stats seem to suggest that Edouard would be able to make the step up.

The former PSG man has managed a fraction under a goal every other game for the Bhoys and was enjoying his finest scoring season to date prior to football's enforced break.

He has extensive experience as a lone striker, suiting him well to Rodgers' 4-1-4-1 system and is an accomplished creator, registering 12 assists during the 2019/2020 campaign. There's also plenty of time for the 22-year-old to improve, meaning he could be the perfect long term replacement for Vardy.

Alfredo Morelos

Rangers FC v Sporting Braga - UEFA Europa League Round of 32: First Leg

Hold onto your hats people, we're crossing the Old Firm divide to take a look at Rangers star Alfredo Morelos.

The 23-year-old possesses a fiery Latin temperament which can often spill over and cause disciplinary issues - but there can be no denying his talent.

The Colombian has seen red on seven occasions since signing for the Gers back in 2017. It's a frankly ridiculous total and a trait that he would need to stamp out if he was to join Leicester, who are currently second to Liverpool in this season's fairplay table.

Despite his issues, Morelos record of 77 goals in just 137 games is very impressive - though his form had tailed off badly prior to the SPFL season being halted. This one is risky but the pay off could be huge.

Teemu Pukki

Tottenham Hotspur v Norwich City - Premier League

Remember those first few weeks of the season when it looked like Teemu Pukki had a genuine chance of clinching the Premier League Golden Boot? Simpler times, eh?

Though the Finn has not quite kept up his remarkable August scoring rate - five goals in Norwich's opening three games in case you had forgotten - netting 11 times for the basement dwelling Canaries has proven he is capable of producing at the highest level.

Obviously this is not a long term solution but if Daniel Farke's side get relegated the 30-year-old will be available for peanuts.

Pukki has had a strange, meandering career and we're certain it's all been leading up to him coming off the bench to net the winning goal for Leicester in next season's Champions League final. Get it done Brendan.

Alassane Plea

Borussia Moenchengladbach v Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga

A key component in Marco Rose's overachieving Borussia Monchengladbach side this season, Alassane Plea could be prised away from Die Fohlen for the right price.

The Frenchman has sparked up a strong relationship with Gladbach teammates Marcus Thuram and Breel Embolo with the three interchanging positions fluidly and pressing in an organised manner.

He is set to reach double figures for goals for the second successive Bundesliga season and has also been a potent creative presence, racking up seven assists.

Plea's ability across the front line makes him an attractive prospect but at 27 the boat may have sailed for him to be Vardy's long term replacement.

Luis Henrique

Botafogo v Bangu - Campeonato Carioca

Sacking off all the sensible options and gambling it all on a Brazilian wonderkid. Is this an article detailing Leicester's transfer options or a review of my Football Manager save?

In case you've never heard of him - which is forgivable - Luis Henrique is an 18-year-old striker currently plying his trade for Botafogo.

His career scoring rate is pretty impressive as well with the starlet averaging a goal every 60 minutes - it's just a shame he's only ever played two senior games.

Capable of playing as a right winger and centre-forward there is very little to suggest that this signing is a good idea and his release clause of £26m seems extortionate. A lot of negotiating will be required to make this a viable option.
