Leicester Set to Win Transfer Race for Monaco's Fode Ballo-Toure

Leicester City look set to beat Manchester United to the signing of Monaco left-back Fode Ballo-Toure.

Brendan Rodgers and Leicester have been looking for a replacement for Ben Chilwell - who joined Chelsea on Wednesday for £50m.

Leicester are not the only club in for the Frenchman though, with Manchester United looking to bring him in as competition for Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams, the former struggling with injuries and the latter in his first senior season.

It looks as though Monaco are resigned to losing the young Frenchman, signing Atletico Madrid's Caio Henrique earlier in the week.

Ballo-Toure only joined the French side in January 2019 from Lille in a deal worth £10m, and so with two years left on his contract Monaco are said to be holding out for £18m - a fraction of the fee Leicester received for Chilwell.

The Daily Mail report that Leicester have already made contact with officials from the principality club, and so could be well on their way to securing a deal for the exciting defender.

After spending big on Bruno Fernandes in January, United showed a dramatic improvement leading many to believe that with a couple more additions this summer they could challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the title.

However, some fans are growing frustrated with a lack of movement in the market this summer – with a move for Jadon Sancho looking increasingly unlikely and few other links being made public.

The move to replace Chilwell for a fraction of the price of his sale, though, looks like another good piece of business from the Midlands side, and allows them to look for players to strengthen elsewhere.
