Leicester Plot €30m Deal for Sporting CP's Gonzalo Plata

Leicester City remain keen on Sporting CP's Gonzalo Plata and are looking to bring the youngster to the King Power Stadium in the summer.

The Lisbon side have already declined an initial offer of 15m for the 19-year-old.

The Foxes are prepared to offer double that figure, with a second bid in the pipeline according to the Portuguese media, as translated by Sportwitness.

The improved offer might just decide it for Sporting with a hefty fee like €30m difficult to ignore for the Portuguese giants.

However, they would prefer to keep Plata at the Estadio José Alvalade as he's a highly-rated prospect at the club.

They may be unable to do much to dissuade the Ecuadorian from moving to the Premier League if Brendan Rodger's side can convince him, though.

The 2015/16 Premier League champions would become all the more deadly going forward, with Plata adding flair, trickery and pace on the wing if the transfer goes through.

Leicester already possess some talented wingers with the likes of Harvey Barnes, Ayoze Perez, Marc Albrighton and Demarai Gray all comfortable in occupying the position.

However, with Albrighton now 30 and Gray struggling for form, the addition of the exciting youngster will provide the Foxes with much-needed competition as they remain eager to strengthen their squad depth as well as add that extra sparkle on the attack.

Furthermore, the possibility of European football next season only reinforces the need for backup in case of injuries or suspensions.

Brendan Rodgers has a reputation for developing young players, so Plata - who's certainly one for the future - could grow into a quality winger under the watchful eye of the former Celtic boss.

The Ecuadorian has only made 14 appearances for Sporting so far and has a contract that runs until 2024, so the deal remains difficult for Leicester to complete.
