Leicester City in Talks to Sign FC Koln Winger Ismail Jakobs

Leicester City have been linked with a move for FC Koln's Ismail Jakobs, but could face competition from Tottenham and Roma for his signature.

The 20-year-old winger, who can also play as a left-back, has been one of the key components behind Koln's rise up the table this season, helping the team to 10th place before the season was suspended.

Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes (via the Leicester Mercury) are reporting that contact has already been made with Koln over a deal.

The Daily Mail revealed earlier this year that the Foxes were watching Jakobs, and now it appears they've stepped up their interest.

Jakobs was awarded the Bundesliga's 'Rookie of the Month' award for December after a string of impressive performances in his first month competing in the German top flight.

Having progressed through Koln's youth academy, Jakobs finally made his first team debut back in November, and rumours of a big European move are a testament to his impressive development in such a short period of time.

Although he only made his first team debut in November, Koln moved quickly to tie their prized asset down to a new contract. Jakobs put pen to paper in March, extending his contract until the summer of 2022.

Prior to this season's disruption, Jakobs had struggled with a muscle injury at the start of the campaign. But after making his debut in November, he went onto make a further 14 appearances across all competitions.

It remains to be seen whether the reported interest from a host of European clubs is followed up whenever the next transfer window opens.

Koln and Jakobs will 'probably' to return to Bundesliga action later this month as part of measures to relax coronavirus lockdown restrictions in Germany, which could give Leicester fans a chance to take a look at their reported target.
