Leicester 0-0 PSV Eindhoven: Player ratings as Foxes fail to make dominance pay

Leicester were on top throughout on Thursday against PSV Eindhoven but could not find the goal to give them the advantage in this Europa Conference League quarter-final.

Brendan Rodgers' men enjoyed plenty of possession and a number of shots on goal, but just three of them were on target as PSV held on for a comfortable draw.

Kasper Schmeichel was called on inside two minutes to keep out Mario Gotze, who had timed his run to perfection to get himself through on goal.

The Foxes regained their composure quickly and started to cause problems for PSV, but the Dutch side were a constant threat on the break and were seemingly happy to play this one more like a basketball match.

Kelechi Iheanacho had his side's first real chance 20 minutes in. He found himself one-on-one with Yvon Mvogo, but his chip drifted wide of the post.

It took another 20 minutes for the game's next real chance. This time, it was Harvey Barnes who found his way into the box and unleashed a thumping strike which crashed off the outside of Mvogo's post to send the two sides into the break level at 0-0.

PSV came out fast in the second half and quietly appealed for a penalty when Ricardo Pereira appeared to trip Cody Gakpo. The referee wasn't interested and there were no significant appeals, and without VAR, his decision stood.

Again, Leicester wrestled control back and Iheanacho again came close to opening the scoring, only to drag his long-range effort wide.

Leicester pushed and pushed but they lacked quality in the final third, while PSV deserve credit for keeping them at bay for the most part. Mvogo was practically a bystander in the second half and watched on as Leicester realised they weren't going to get the win they perhaps deserved.

Leicester player ratings vs PSV

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Fofana was impressive | Soccrates Images/GettyImages

Kasper Schmeichel (GK) - 6/10 - A nice save early on to deny Gotze but otherwise largely a spectator.

Ricardo Pereira (RB) - 7/10 - A regular threat down the right wing. Didn't have much defending to do.

Wesley Fofana (CB) - 7/10 - Really impressive all game long. His return to form is huge for Leicester.

Jonny Evans (CB) - 7/10 - Used his big-game experience to sniff out any danger before it really started.

Timothy Castagne (LB) - 7/10 - Such a force down his side of the pitch. Looked desperate to get a goal or an assist.

2. Midfielders

Youri Tielemans (DM) - 6/10 - Deployed in a deeper role but not really asked to do much defending. Not as creative as you might like but perhaps that was part of his role.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (CM) - 8/10 - The real star of this Leicester midfield. Played with such energy and kept Leicester on the front foot throughout.

James Maddison (CM) - 7/10 - Given license to drop deep and pick up the ball. Looked dangerous going forward.

3. Forwards

Barnes had an excellent chance | Soccrates Images/GettyImages

Marc Albrighton (RW) - 5/10 - Put himself about a lot but his impact on the game was minimal.

Kelechi Iheanacho (ST) - 6/10 - Some really nice link-up play but his finishing wasn't good enough. Should've scored.

Harvey Barnes (LW) - 7/10 - Really lively down the wing but found it tough to actually get through to goal. Could've scored in the first half.

4. Substitutes

James Justin (RB, 67' for Justin) - 6/10

Ademola Lookman (ST, 67' for Iheanacho) - 5/10

Patson Daka (ST, 81' for Albrighton) - 6/10
