Kelechi Iheanacho wins Premier League player of the month award for March

Leicester striker Kelechi Iheanacho has won the Premier League's player of the month award for March.

The Nigerian has re-emerged as a quality striking option for the Foxes since the turn of the year, scoring eight goals in all competitions so far in 2021. He took that to another level last month, however, as he netted in three successive Premier League games for the first time in his career.

Strikes against Burnley and Brighton helped keep Leicester alive in their pursuit of a Champions League spot before a stunning hat-trick against Sheffield United cemented his status as Jamie Vardy's partner in crime up front.

His exploits earned him a nomination for player of the month, and he has emerged as the winner, fending off competition from the likes of Harry Kane, Jesse Lingard and Riyad Mahrez.

Iheanacho has now scored 12 goals in 28 appearances for Leicester this season, with his recent domestic upturn following a flurry of goals in the Europa League before Leicester went out to Slavia Prague.

It's the best total of his career since his breakthrough campaign with Manchester City, when he scored 14 goals in 2015/16 and was tipped for greatness at the Etihad.

It hasn't quite gone to plan for him since, but now 24, he is beginning to deliver on his early promise at the King Power Stadium.

He will be hoping to keep his impressive form going once Leicester return from the international break as they face two key games in their pursuit of a return to European football's top table. They face Man City at home on Saturday 3 April before they travel to take on West Ham a week later.
