Jamie Vardy Opens Up on the Mind Games With Pepe Reina in Leicester's Win Over Aston Villa

Jamie Vardy returned to goalscoring form against Aston Villa on Monday night, hitting the net twice in Leicester's 4-0 win over the Villans.

Vardy had started the match on the bench, but came on in the 59th minute to great effect, taking his league tally to the season for 19. The victory also strengthened the Foxes' case for Champions League qualification following a rotten recent run of form.

The former England international's first came from the penalty spot, just four minutes after coming on, too, but Vardy revealed after the game that opposing goalkeeper Pepe Reina attempted to get in his head as he prepared to take the kick.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Vardy said that the former Liverpool man had tried to bait him to hit it down the middle of the goal - and the Englishman duly obliged.

"The keeper said I was going down the middle and he was right - I was! So, he's tried to play my bluff and I've ended up calling his," he said.

It was hardly Reina's best night overall. The veteran keeper had already made a grave error in the first half to allow Harvey Barnes to open the scoring. Reina rushed out of his goal to attempt to cut out a through ball to Barnes, but misjudged the pace of the pass and was beaten to the ball.

Vardy meanwhile had been struggling to find the net after a prolific start to the season and his goals against Villa were a welcome return.

The 33-year-old's first strike was his first Premier League goal since December, a total of 644 minutes without converting, via Opta.

Jamie Vardy's form this season would be setting himself up nicely for England duty this summer but it remains to be seen if Vardy will come out of retirement to rejoin Gareth Southgate's squad
